Child Advocacy, NCK CASA & Hope's Place CAC

Goal: $10,000.00

Specific Need

NCK CASA: Funds to recruit, train and support much needed CASA volunteers who work hands on with the abused and neglected children.

Hope's Place CAC: Funds for comfort items for the children who are referred to Hope's Place. Funds for staff resources to be able to advocate for the child and caregiver during their case.

Mission

NCK CASA provides advocacy for safe, permanent homes and a voice for abused and neglected children in the 12th Judicial District of Kansas.

VISION: Children will grow up in safe and permanent homes where their needs are met.

VALUES:

  1. All children deserved to be safe in their home
  2. Children have a right to have an advocate so their voice can be heard
  3. Adults in the community are responsible for ensuring the safety of children

Profile

Children in our community are being abused and neglected.  In 2019 there were 153 Abuse cases filed in our service area in 2019. (Cloud-91; Mitchell-31; Lincoln-11; Washington –11; Republic –7; Jewell- 2)  These numbers reflect only NEW cases filed, and do not include ongoing cases from previous years.

At NCK CASA we have two programs.  North Central Kansas CASA (NCK CASA) and Hope’s Place Child Advocacy Center (CAC).  Both programs serve the 12th Judicial District and when needed, provide services to counties outside our district.

NCK CASA: Court Appointed Special Advocates are volunteers who are recruited, trained, and supervised by paid staff.  The primary duties of a CASA volunteer are to investigate and become acquainted with the facts, conditions, and circumstances affecting a child’s welfare, to advocate the best interests of the child, and to assist the court in obtaining the most permanent, safe, and homelike placement possible.

HOPE’S PLACE CAC:  What is a Child Advocacy Center (CAC)?  When police or DCF believe a child is being abused or neglected, the child is brought to the CAC, a safe, child-focused environment by a caregiver or other “safe” adult.  The child tells their story once to a trained interviewer.  Then, a team that includes medical professionals, law enforcement, mental health, prosecution, child protective services, victim advocacy, and other professionals make decisions together about how to help the child based on the interview.   In 2019, 73 children were referred to Hope’s Place CAC for forensic interviews from 8 Kansas counties.

We are available to give presentations to any adult or youth organization that is interested.

Thank you for your time, we look forward to hearing from you!
